When I was searching for a good zoom lens to use with my new Epl-2, I read lot of discussions and reviews about the standard zoom lenses that usually comes in kit with the cameras. Good, not good, not so sharp, too slow, etc. These were the comments that I read on the various 14-42, is that Olympus or Panasonic.
Then I read rave reviews about Panasonic Lumix 14-45, all agree that it was the best economic zoom lens for Micro Four Thirds system, and the best built too. Metal mount, good quality plastic, integrated OS (Panasonic calls it Mega O.I.S.), internal focusing monitor. With surprise I discovered that this lens was no longer produced and so I bought it used for a good price.
My Olympus Epl-2 with Panasonic Lumix 14-45 mounted on it weighs 600 grams. Superb.
This lens is sharp. At any focal length, at any aperture. You can use it wide open and close a little when you need more background or you are shooting landscapes. Autofocus is fast and accurate, and with OIS on you can benefit of 2 or maybe 3 stop, and I prefer using Panasonic Mega O.I.S. instead of Olympus IS, when I can choose between them. For what I saw I got better results.
I’m very pleased with this lens. For the price I paid is a bargain. Give it a try.
